Setting up VPN from UW

The first thing to do is contact someone from IT to enable your account to use VPN. For some reason the default preset of our UW accounts is not to be allowed to use VPN. I contacted Krzysztof Szymaszczyk, but I know that some other people have contacted other people and have the account enabled (e.g., Michał Jankowski).

Once this is done, we are ready to setup the VPN on the computer. I'm using a MacBook, so I only have experience setting it up on MacOS:

  1. Go to the System Preferences
  2. Go to Network
  3. On the left-hand side panel, click on the + sign at the bottom. This will prompt you to create a new network configuration.
    1. On Interface, select "VPN".
    2. This will enable another line, where you can select the VPN Type, select "Cisco IPSec".
    3. On Service Name, you can name it as you like.
  4. Then you will be left with screen where you can fill-in the details of the VPN server.
    1. On Server Address, write vpnhub.fuw.edu.pl
    2. On the Account Name, write your username from FUW, e.g., clopez.
    3. On Password, write the password that you use for VPN. This is a tricky one, because it is not obvious that you have even set up such a password. In case you hadn't, go to https://myfuw.fuw.edu.pl; then select "Password for access to wireless networks and VPN". There you can either create or change the password that we're looking for. If you have never set up this password (After all the introductions to the Uni, I didn't know that you could/should do this; so it is possible that you hadn't either), create the password. You will need your master password for this.
    4. Coming back to the network preferences, go to "Authentication Settings".
      1. In Shared Secret, write RAL7B6E22SZN4F3J.
      2. In the Group Name, write FUW.Fizyk
  5. Apply the changes, and this should be it.
