The University of Wolverhampton will host a Physics Day on a date to be chosen as to satisfy the greater number. It is open to everybody. Please join!

Description

This is a free event for everybody interested in Physics, particularly for schools and colleges pupils who are considering to study the topic at the University level. The day will be rhythmed by experimentation engaging the direct participation of the audience, with rotating seats and sticks, colliding hovercrafts, chasing free-falling objects, bending lasers, detecting $\gamma$ rays, etc. Slots will be available for one-to-one interviews with prospective applicants.

Attendance is free but for organisation purposes, you are invited to express your interest by contacting us at contact us (as well as for any questions you may have).

  • 10:00 – 10:30
    Registration and collect visitor badges.
  • 10:30 – 11:00
    Welcome.
    What is Physics?
  • 11:00 – 12:00
    Experiments with matter. When things do not behave as expected. Feeling gravity and angular momentum in new ways and understanding why. Getting to grip with $\vec L=\vec r\times m\vec v$.
  • 12:00 – 14:00
    Lunch break.
    Interviews.
  • 14:00 – 15:30
    Experiments with light. Not science-fiction: travelling in the future, quantum teleportation and parallel universes. The technology of tomorrow.
  • 15:30 – 16:00
    Coffee break.
  • 16:00 – 16:30
    Career perspectives. What can you do as a physicist? Why and how becoming part of the University of Wolverhampton's Physics team? Final comments and conclusions.
  • 16:30 – 17:00
    Interviews.
